Action Opens Today to Supreme Court for 250000

The Octahor term of the Supreme Court for Rensselaer County opened with 13 jurors excused, nine extra panelists drawn for today’s trial. Walter S Malloy sues the City of Rensselaer and the New York General Railroad for 250000 damages after a wheel dropped into an unfilled drain on Columbia Turnpike near Rensselaer. Malloy, represented by Jones & Jones with David Rosenfeld, claims negligence in bridge and railway upkeep. The defense is led by Corporation Counsel Jumps 8 Millen and M James Conboy, with F W Wheeler for the railroad. Court recessed until tomorrow.

Ostwald Convicted in Fatal Car Collision in Fensgalaer County

Judge Cann presided as a jury in Fensgalaer County Court found Frank W. Ostwald guilty of culpable negligence for the Dec 22 1945 fatal injury to Robert B. Ryan on the Wynnntekill West Sand Lake highway. Ostwald, held since conviction, faces 1 to 5 years in state prison. Ryan died December 24 after the collision. Ostwald reported the accident to state police December 28.

Necklace Theft Probe At Local Jewelry Store

A theft at a jewelry store valued at 30 dollars was reported to the Detective Bureau. The necklace was taken during the night from Jasuyih Knonigabayer Jr and linked to the Hudson area. Anthony Santora, who runs a used car lot at River and Middleburg Streets, reported two car keys stolen on the same morning.

Exemptions Boost Troy Real Property Tax Relief in 1847

A report by Edward F Gerald, commissioner of assessment and taxation, shows tray real property exemptions rose by 111 936 for the tax year 1847 compared with 1946. Total real property value exempt from taxation reached 331 214 917 for 1847, up from 81 102 581 in 1946, driven by veterans and educational institutions. Government owned properties and civic groups account for the bulk of exemptions, with churches, organizations, and parsonages also listed among the categories and caps set on clergy and parsonages.

Former Editor of Utica Globe Dies in Saturday Globe Recall

The funeral of Albert Marton Dickinson was held Sunday afternoon. Mr Jhek inson, years ago managing editor of the Utica Saturday Globe, has passed away. The obituary notes Dickinson’s prominence and the Globe’s once wide influence in the Troy area. Thomas M. Curry, late associate editor of The Record Newspapers, also served as editor of the Troy edition of the Globe.
