Langworth to Exhibit Oil Paintings at Cohoes Center

Rose Marie Langworth, an artist scheduled to teach an oil painting class at the Cohoes Community Center, will display her paintings in an Art show. The event highlights her recent works and invites local residents to view.

Waterford groups plan meetings and events this week

Waterford Halfmoon Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. to approve a building change order and budget input, plus property sale, resignations and appointments. A Rescue Squad meeting follows at 7:30 p.m. with officer nominations and bylaw revisions. Mothers Club Christmas party is planned for Dec 12 with cookie swap and Clothe-A-Child donations. Christmas Fair Planned by First United Methodist Church

The First United Methodist Church at 121 Remsen St Cohoes announces a Christmas fair on Thursday and Friday. A baked ham dinner runs Thursday 5 to 7 p.m. with reservations. The fair opens at 9 a.m. Friday features a soup sandwich and pie luncheon. Bazaar offers food crafts gifts toys jewelry and more. All meals and many bazaar items are homemade. Public welcome.

Turpin Named Sailor of the Quarter on USS White Plains

David G. Turpin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Turpin of 96 Hudson Ave Cohoes, a 1975 Cohoes High graduate and computer operator aboard the USS White Plains, was named Sailor of the Quarter for his outstanding duty performance. He entered the Navy in Oct 1975 and has served aboard since January last year.

Scultins Swim Club Presents Christmas Show Dec 9 and 10

COHOES The Scultins synchronized swimming club at the Cohoes Community Center led by Nancy Whiteman of the YWCA will stage a Christmas show on December 9 at 8 p.m. and December 10 at 4 p.m. The team, ages seven to twenty, charges a nominal adult fee with free admission for children under 10. Proceeds go to the team travel fund.

Two Troy men charged with burglary in Cohoes market

Charles Coon 23 of Hillcrest Street and Mark Plant 19 of Seminole Street were charged with burglary in the third degree and attempting to commit a crime related to an incident at Big Value Supermarket 92 Main Street Cohoes. They were arraigned in police court Monday and remanded to Albany County Jail pending bail.

Cohoes Board Reviews District Policy for Manual Update

The Cohoes board of education conducts a public review of policy sections during each monthly meeting. Superintendent Gerald Amyot says sections on district organization and school board operations have been examined, with the general administration section to be aired at the December 13 meeting. The public may inspect the policy manual in Amyot’s office at 2 Johnston Ave. daily 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and attend the December 13 board session.

Cheer for Children toy drive seeks donations in Cohoes

City employees are asked to donate a new or gently used toy for this year’s Cheer for Children drive organized by the Cohoes Youth Bureau. Community drop sites include city hall, the Community Center, firehouses, police, public works, Human Resource Center, and Marine Midland Bank. Toy recipients can apply at the Youth Bureau Monday through Friday 9 am to 4 pm at 22 40 Remsen St. Deadline is December 19. Last year 275 youths received gifts.

Cohoes Court Records Show Guilty Pleas and Little Jail Time

Cohoes Police Court reports judge Walter Burke presided over cases including Joseph van Sleet III 28 who pled guilty to petty larceny and fined 100 dollars with three weekends in Albany County Jail. Russell Dawson 44 pleaded guilty to driving while impaired and enters a drinking program. Daniel Napoli 19 faced multi district charges and remains remanded to Albany County Jail pending grand jury appearance. Frank Obzad 17 pled guilty to disorderly conduct and will serve two eight hour days for a charitable organization.

Books for lunch program launches in Cohoes

Cohoes Public Library starts a “Books for lunch” service for seniors. Each week two books are chosen based on reading preferences from meals on wheels flyers and delivered with lunches. Large print option available. First delivery on December 1.

William Walker of Walker's Elbow Room has been elected to a third term as president of the New York State Restaurant Liquor Dealers Association becoming the first local leader to head the statewide group He also serves as executive president of the state unit and as executive vice president of the Saratoga County Liquor Dealers Association. In Glenville the Tri City Singles of Albany Troy Schenectady host a December 6 dance with Country Cousins at Woodlin Club, for members 25 and older who are divorced or widowed.
