Armored boot to be tested in Vietnam and Korea
The Army will field test a new blast protective tropical combat boot in South Vietnam with 80 pairs, plus 100 pairs for Korea patrols. Developed over four years, the design uses a stainless steel wedge with aluminum honeycomb, protecting the heel and arch, and an overboot could boost foot-save potential from 45 to 90 percent. Mines and booby traps accounted for roughly 9 percent of Vietnam combat deaths, higher than earlier wars.
