OPA to Protect Tenants in Albany District Rentals

Francis X. Riley, area rent director, said the Office of Price Administration has lightened rent controls to ease pressures in the Albany District. High demand from veterans and war workers plus fewer rental houses due to sales to new owners are raising evictions and evasion risks. OPA has extended the eviction waiting period from ninety days to six months to give tenants time to find affordable housing and reduce illegal side payments. State Notes Increase In Venereal Disease

State Notes Increase In Venereal Disease Case reports for sixty philia in upstate New York are six per cent above the prewar average, an official of the State Health Department says. Dr James H Laude, director of the division of venereal disease, called the rise alarming in an article. In Health News the department publication, The Magazine was distributed yesterday, Dr Laude said the rise referred to cases of syphilis of less than one year duration. There were 8 cases of early syphilis reported in October, compared with 270 for the same month a year ago and a 1990 41 October average of 93. These figures reveal more than tragedy in a diagnosis of early syphilis, Dr Laude wrote, noting there are approximately four undiscovered cases for every one reported. Within two weeks of the opening of a revolting drive for Army enlistments, 315 Fort Warren, Wyo soldiers applied for entry into the regulars.
