Since 1937 the program has grown to include 14 500 acres under cultivation 89 bishop stores 65 canneries 755 livestock projects and 314 processing plants. The program began as work for aid and was reviewed with the OPA after concerns about hoarding. The OPA now treats the warehouse as wholesale and oversees member participation.
