Washington's half billion blueprint for future capital growth
A Washington Board of Trade survey outlines an ambitious postwar plan for the capital. It forecasts population growth from about 1.1 million to possibly 1.4 to 4.6 million, with extensive construction of federal and non government buildings, a large stadium, parks, highways, underground streetcars, housing, and an enlarged Potomac yacht basin. Federal works approval and congressional action are sought to fund about 19 billion dollars in federal buildings and 323 million in local expansion in the first two postwar years.
