Justice Douglas speaks on Asia at Schenectady lecture

Supreme Court Justice Douglas told an audience in Schenectady that the United States had been less astute in dealing with Russia and Asia. He argued Asians seek equal treatment and distrust gifts, saying communists exploit discontent and reveal their colors only after winning.

Companions Of Runaway Girls Nabbed In Troy Area

Three Troy area youths are held in Rensselaer County on burglary and morals charges after suspects identified them in connection with three girls who ran away from the Troy Branch State Training School for Girls near Poestenkill. Police say the girls, ages 14, 13, and 36, were hidden overnight at Barberville Moon's Hotel and were driven to Albany before the incident was traced to the trio. Bail set at 2000 for burglary and 300 for morals violations per youth.

Police identify troopers aiding Poughkeepsie investigation

In Poughkeepsie, officers noticed suspects during the probe as Trooper JF Hostin of the BCT in East Greenbush and Trooper W G Wolfe of BEI in Troy assisted with the inquiry.

Banquet Honoring South Troy Little Leaguers

The South Troy Little League held a banquet at the Polish American Club for 277 players, parents, and guests on Saturday. James Barburn, league president, introduced Rev. Thomas Scalt who said grace. Gerald Rogers introduced Robert Ogen, director at Madison Valley Technical Institute, who acted as toastmaster. Principal speaker Billy Farrell shared his career in sports, followed by a Q&A. The evening ended with films of the 1957 World Series and notice of a future WWRE meeting.

Barracks Push for Troy as National Shrine

Tensselaer County Veterans of World War I adopted a resolution urging Washington to designate Troy as a National Shrine for Uncle Sam. Commander William Houser presided, stressing members must have 80 days active service between April 7, 1917, and November 11, 1918 and an honorable discharge. Frank Frick was named commander of new barracks in Hoosick Falls. A slate of officers to be elected at the December meeting was announced. Bertram L. Jones said a drive to organize new barracks in Aveville Park area would run tomorrow through Saturday. The next VFW state meeting will be in Catskill on November 34.

Raymertown approves eleven thousand dollar fire truck

The Raymertown Fire District board approved an $11,000 contract for a new combination fire pumper tanker. Delivered early spring, the apparatus will feature an enclosed cab and an 850 gallons per minute pump with a 1,000 gallon booster tank. The old 3,940 gallon tank truck will be disposed of while the fire company remains in service.

Man Dies Suddenly as PTA Schedules School 2 Sale

Marines Observe L ard Anniversary At Local Party

The third anniversary of the U S Marine Corps founding on November 10 1774 will be celebrated by area Marines with a driver and party at The Baradale Sunday. Ralph E Bransted of the NEON faculty will speak and reservations should be made with Tim. The event opens at 2 pm with a light dinner, followed by the tradition including the reading of the Commander’s message and cutting of the Marine cake. The first slice goes to the youngest Marine, the second to the oldest, and the third to the wife of the youngest or the oldest. Attending are Capt. Court adjourned an accident case involving Ponlock of Albany after a two car crash on Rt 9 near Siena College on Oct 11. Auto Mishap Near Allegheny In Colonie injures three

A three person accident occurred yesterday morning when a car skidded on slippery pavement and struck railroad tracks near the Allegheny area in Colonie. Tow Van Letven and his daughter Helen Van Louven were taken to a local hospital. Helen suffered a possible injury to her left hip and leg while Mr Van Louven had a minor lip laceration.
