Hutchinson Kansas AP reports a new state rule forces Forward Ladd out of the cream pie business. The law requires pies to be refrigerated within 30 minutes of baking and transported in a refrigerated truck. Ladd cannot comply and sells the pie operation. He shifts to farming ending a Ladd pie tradition dating to 1912. He argues refrigeration harms crust quality.
