Tito Hopes for Agreement on Italy Dispute
Yugoslav leader Tito urged settlement of tensions between Allies and Yugoslavs over northeast Italy and southern Austria. He defended Yugoslav troop actions in Istria and Trieste, insisting his forces fought to liberate territories, not attack them, and demanded recognition of Yugoslav rights by the peace conference.
