Submarine on Treasured War Savings Tour

A two man Japanese submarine captured at Pearl Harbor arrives in Troy on June 3 for a War Savings tour for the U S Treasury. The 1150 foot long craft weighs 75 600 pounds with a tractor and semi trailer. It traversed the Salton Sea region and climbed into the Mule Mountains near Bisbee and into the Colorado River desert. It is billed as the first overland submarine cruiser in history and draws motorists’ awe as it navigates mountain grades and sharp curves. Stationed crews faced major challenges including bridge load limits, underpasses, and traffic safety in moving the vessel.
