New Garden Lands Ready In North End
Prof Eugene Fr Wiseman chairs the Victorg Garden project at the hockey rink site north end of Quickerbocker Playground. New ground has been plowed and unfilled plots will be assigned at a Monday night meeting. The 30 by 63 foot plots are mostly tended by previous year’s gardeners. Rabbits threaten gardens. fences are costly and repellents costly and ineffective. Simple bow traps baited with apple or carrot help control rabbits. Drawings of traps and related guidance are available from New York State Bulletin E-614. The Troy Record offers 14 prizes for best gardens across five communities with cash and war bond awards.
