Manager Steve ONeill joked the turf might soothe him, noting Hank Greenberg benefited from moving to the grass. Other top hitters included Dick Wakefield, Johnny Lindell, Cris Hockett, Wally Moses, Jo Jo White, Mike Charak, Jeff Heath, and Ray Radcliff, with Jo Jo White totaling 33 hits and George Case stealing the most bases. Alex Carrasquel headed the stout Nat pitching staff with four wins and no losses, and Virgil Trucks led Detroit in strikeouts with 28.
