Troy’s Musical Center Grows Through The Years

The narrative traces Troy’s rise as a music hub from early hotel venues in 1824 through the 19th century. It highlights concert halls and notable figures including Mr. Keane, Monsieur and Madame Canderbeck, Charlotte Cushman, and the Griswold Opera House, leading to the grand Music Hall dedicated in 1875 by Theodore Thomas. It notes local clubs and associations such as the Troy Harmonic Association, Vocal Society, Choral Club, Chromatics Club, and the Chromatic Concerts, which organized world class performances and brought major orchestras to Troy.
