Mechanicville police investigated a bicycle moped theft reported by Frank Izzo from South Third Avenue after he parked at Tancredi's Dinner on Elizabeth Street. Officers found the moped in a grassy area at 1000 Elizabeth St and questioned two men who offered to take polygraph tests. Police plan further inquiry into the case.
The Northeastern New York Red Cross Blood Center releases this week schedule with venues in Voorheesville Clinton Avenue Albany Shaker Latham Ticonderoga Colonie Clifton Park Shenendehowa Valatie Cropseyville and Tamarac High Schools plus Ichabod Crane High School. Clifton Park will run this year’s Town swimming program at the Barney Road pool in Country Club Acres rather than Albany State University Mohawk Campus. The move, approved by the town board, came after a split vote with Council member Joseph Johnson supporting the Mohawk option but later voting for Barney Road to avoid delays. The decision includes a $6,000 contract for Barney Road pool use and transportation, and a separate $5,000 FSA contract from last year. Johnson plans to pursue seasonal memberships for town residents at about $20 per family.
Three Mechanicville residents report thefts early Sunday with items including a tape player two pocket knives an electric wristwatch and a rifle valued in the low hundreds. William Thompson presides as new American Legion commander with a 12 member color guard and June 20 installation planned. Diane Clements sustains lip abrasions and car damage in a Round Lake Avenue crash. Hydrant flushing by the Mechanicville Highway Department begins nightly from 1 p.m. to 3 a.m. likely clouding water temporarily.
Freshman state senator Joseph Bruno and Assemblyman Robert DAndrea spoke at the Clifton Park Republicans Club seventh annual fundraising dinner at the Edison Club Rexford. Bruno said constituent needs spur action and DAndrea described his social leadership role as club president Mary Rowe praised the event.
Single parents in the Parents Without Partners group in southern Saratoga County meet Monday at Geyser Crest with Charles Crawford of Ballston Spa arranging attendance. The Clifton Park Welcome Wagon Club will meet 8 p.m. Tuesday at Shenendehowa High School cafeteria with Jordana teaching bellydance and sharing its background. Officers to be elected and plans for a June 7 installation dinner at Godfather Restaurant, marking the club's 10th anniversary, will be finalized.
Malta troopers report a lone gunman, in his late 20s, demanded cash from the Texaco Self-Service at Route 50 and Brookline Road. He took about 278 dollars and change, then fled south on Route 50 in a late model white car.
