New York State Residents Pay Fifth of U S Tax
New York residents, 10 percent of the population, pay 20 percent of the federal tax bill while producing less than 15 percent of national income. State Tax Commissioner Rollin Browne notes over 80 percent of taxes in the state, excluding local real property, go to the federal government. He cites wartime needs and peacetime functions funded by those taxes and warns New York could lose 10 million in corporate franchise taxes without changes to war contract renegotiation.
