Congress Faces Huge Expenditures In Coming Sessions
Washington officials warn that in the next six weeks Congress will approve a flurry of money measures. About 100 billion dollars in requests await action before July 1, with major items including a War Department bill near 53 billion and a Navy appropriation around 29.46 billion. Other agencies seek roughly 10 billion, Labor about 1 billion, and smaller bills for interior, independent offices, courts, and district needs. Veteran appropriations expert Everard H. Smith called the period “pretty rough sledding.”
