State Dept. Contends McCarthy List Was Misleading
Barrett challenged Senator McCarthy's claim that 205 individuals were named as bad security risks by the president's security board and the loyalty board. He noted that in 1945 those 205, plus 80 more, were tentatively disapproved across categories from automatic alien disapproval to derogatory information. Now, the 205 are either no longer in the department or have been investigated and cleared, with 46 of the total 280 still on payroll.
