Democrats Accuse Past Budget Tricks in Troy Administration

Mayor John J. Ahern accuses the former Democratic city administration of deliberately underestimating expenditures to keep the 1944 budget low and embarrass successors. He cites comptroller figures showing overrun in Public Works and Old Age and Tax Reduction and Refunds accounts, noting court orders totaling $155,000 and underfunded deficits. He urges continued economizing to avoid borrowing while promising satisfactory city services.
