29 Billion Committee Approves Navy Funds in Historic Bill

The House appropriations committee endorsed the largest naval appropriation, 29 463 687 198, with 27 463 687 198 direct FY funds and 2 000 000 000 contractual authority for naval aviation. They cut little from the request, emphasizing naval aviation and a shift to carrier-centric task forces over battleships. Vice Admiral Horne testified that the fleet has become a carrier-led unit, with cruisers for interference and battleship-on-battleship conflict obsolete.
