Insurance Benefit Rate Increases For Unemployed

New York State will raise the minimum unemployment insurance benefit to 101 dollars per week starting June 7 following a 1943 legislative amendment. The current minimum is seven dollars weekly. The reform tightens eligibility for lower wage earners, raising the annual wage to qualify to 250 dollars from 175, and requires at least 100 dollars in the highest calendar quarter instead of four dollars. The plan eliminates the seven eight and nine dollar rates and aims to help steady workers obtain higher benefits.
