War Pay Bill Benefits Trojans War Pay Bill Benefits Trojans

The permanent war pay bill signed by the President benefits virtually all government employees in Troy except postal workers and Justice Department staff. It continues the 216 percent increase on a 48 hour work week, with a 15 percent flat raise for work not suited to overtime. The raise bases on the first 2900 dollars, with a maximum raise of 628 dollars, and a new minimum of 300 dollars for those under 1500 dollars. The ceiling for straight pay and war increases is removed, retroactive to May 1, and excludes certain officials.

Secretary of the Navy Knox stated that Allied victory in Tunisia will open the Mediterranean to United Nations shipping and that German air forces cannot prevent American and British ships from using the route. He added the Tunisian victory will shorten the voyage to the Middle East and nearly double usable tonnage with an air umbrella, though German planes will try to block it.
