Ku Klux Klan Stages Big Rally in Georgia

A Klan rally attracted about a thousand white supporters from Georgia and nearby states to Slane Mountain, with a turnout exceeding a thousand spectators. Initiation fees were set at ten dollars, and several hundred new members were brought in. Police managed traffic around the event as the grand dragon Dr. Samuel Green, an Atlanta physician, sought to distance the group from racial or religious prejudice.

St Peter's Lyceum society to repair church hall

The Holy Name Society of St. Peter's Church launched repair plans for St. Peter's Lyceum with a building committee to be appointed at a special meeting after the 10 am mass on Sunday May 26. Patrick Flannery presided, and James Purtell reported on the annual communion breakfast.

Farm Safety Study Reports 1945 Death Toll and Injuries

The National Safety Council reports 16,000 farm residents killed in 1945 with 1.5 million injured, the highest totals since 1922. Farm home accidents cause 6,300 deaths, motor vehicle deaths total about 4,200, and agriculture shows a high death rate per 100,000 workers, comprising 28 percent of national deaths.

Jailed for Thefts From Troy Store

Mrs. Lucille Clark, 34, with a long criminal record dating to 1921, pleaded guilty to petit larceny in Troy Police Court and received a thirty day sentence in Rensselaer County Jail. Detectors arrested her Thursday for stealing a handbag from W. T. Grant Co. Three more handbags, a suitcase, and women’s apparel were found in her room. She will be turned over to state correction officials for parole violation after jail term. Her record includes forgery with a five year prison sentence in 1933 and prior larceny cases.

Ernest M. Farine, 46, a former middleweight boxer who competed professionally as Young Maxwell, died of a heart ailment. He appeared in Tray an nevera.

Biography of Maxwell dies in Albany at home

Casiony Maxwell died suddenly Thursday at his Albany home 881 Madison Avenue of an illness. A renowned boxer known as a boser he fought in district championships and faced top contenders in New York and Chicago. Native of duty he came to the United States as a boy. He leaves two brothers and ten sisters, all of Albany. Funeral services will be held Monday morning in Albany.
