Leonard Hospital Jubilee Noted During Open Day Event
Leonard Hospital marks its fiftieth anniversary with an open Hospital Day tomorrow from 2 to 4 pm, inviting the public to tour the facility and learn about its history, growth from eight beds in 1893 to 150 beds, and the expanded staff and equipment. The hospital began when Dr. F B Leonard donated property in Lansingburg and opened in January 1893 with four beds for men and women. A men’s board and women’s association have long supported operations, while wartime duties reduce professional staff and Red Cross Nurses Aide groups assist nurses. The hospital is listed by New York State Board of Inspectors as a No. 1 hospital and is approved for internships and residencies by the AMA and the American College of Surgeons.
