County eyes welfare office space in college move
The Pi Kappa Phi fraternity house at 4 Park Place could become the Rensselaer County Welfare Department office if pending real estate deals close. The plan ties Russell Sage College buying the 48 Second Street John Paine House with the college taking the fraternity house as a down payment, freeing the Second Street building for the welfare department. The county may lease the Concord Street property to house welfare operations and free space at the Court House for Supreme Court trials, prompted by bar association concerns. About 30 fraternity members plan to move by July.
