Watervliet Honor Pupils Named at V-E Day Assembly
Joseph C Fowler valedictorian of Watervliet High School was named by Principal Edward J Senders and Miss Frances Holmes in a special assembly honoring VE Day. Frances Holmes was named saturatorian. other honorees included Elizabeth Crispo Alice Kaien Elizabeth Hodes and more. Fowler led French Club soccer track and baseball while Holmes engaged in Thalian Society Leaders Club Latin Club and school publications. Classes resumed after the program as the district plans further education for the graduates.

Nominating committees led by Joseph Riley and Joseph Murphy were chosen at a Watervliet Council Knights of Columbus meeting in preparation for the dune election. Committees will report March 29. a lecture by Rt Rev Bernard Sheil at Siena College June 15 is open to the public. Watervliet Soldier Wins Bronze Star for Meritorious Action
Private Lee F. Dewire Jr. of Watervliet received the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement during combat near the Roer River. While in enemy territory he relayed terrain and enemy information to aid American deployments and supported command communications and troop movements. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee F. Dewire of Waterford Avenue. Obituary notice follows for two Los Angeles residents formerly of Watervliet, with a Requiem Mass at St Paul Mary in Goatswick.

The Watervliet Civic Chorus gave its final concert of the season at La Patrick's Hall with guest artist Miss Lidia Summers of the Chicago Opera Company. Jared S. Joseph Dp Foley, Watervliet counsel, will speak at the sixth annual Communion breakfast hosted by the Mothers’ Club of Sacred Heart of Mary School on Mother’s Day at 9 30 am in the Hendrick Avenue church.
