A late night fire damaged a East Side mailbox destroying letters addressed to Postmaster Mente Contes and other residents on Collins and Pawling Avenues. Charred fragments included postage stamps and photography. police and federal authorities investigated with possible penalties and arson suspected. The report notes New York State has 2983 towns and villages relying on highway connections for contact with others, a figure representing about 9 percent of all communities.

Troy Burns Club to Send Scroll to British Field Marshal

Evening School Opens Next Month at Troy High

Returning service men may enroll to complete high school diploma requirements or meet college entrance standards in a new Troy Evening School program starting April 5. Accelerated instruction covers English, history, algebra, geometry, trig, and drafting with apprenticeship courses in carpentry, electricity, machine work, sheet metal, welding, and blueprint reading. 187 veterans are expected to attend. registration April 1 from 7 to 8 pm in Room 104.

State Police Halt Joyride in Stolen Truck

Massachusetts and New York authorities pursued a stolen truck after a night ride ended when Massachusetts troopers stopped the vehicle near Letau at about 1:30 yesterday.
