Welfare Farm Gardening Plans Mapped in Rensselaer County
Plans for wartime gardens at the Rensselaer County Welfare Farm were made in a conference among Douglas Hudson Samuel Dorrance and Al Kane. Last year seventy plots produced an average crop valued at 75 dollars per plot. This year twenty to twenty five plots will go to county welfare employees and forty plots to South End residents near the welfare home. Mayor John J Ahern expressed willingness to cooperate. Hudson said the city will assign an employee to the Victory Garden Organization coordinated by Dorrance. Further details and plot reservations will be announced later.
