A Charlton couple Karen and Robert Conyers Jr and their three children escaped a house blaze on Jockey Street after a smoke detector alerted them early today. A cat and dog were also evacuated with no injuries reported.
The Greater Colonie Chamber of Commerce hosts an Inventory Loss Seminar on March 30 at the Sheraton Airport Inn Albany from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Speakers include Frank Simon of Korvettes and Edward Van Valkenborg of Sears on shoplifting and employee theft, with Colonie police discussing theft dynamics. Reservations are available through the chamber. Stillwater Court to hear assault case involving Schaghticoke men Warren D. Smith and Dantel Smith on April 6 after a February 16 beating in Ketcham Corners.
A program featuring Rudy Grant on interior decorating with flowers and house plants will highlight the Woodland Hills Garden Club meeting at 8 p.m. at Mrs. Norman Beddows 13 George Drive. A business session follows with Mrs. James Langdon as co hostess.

Five Schuylerville Central School seniors begin a six week Career Investigation Program through BOCES. Barbara Malesky studies mortuary science, Fawn O'Brien nursing and social work, Roberta Ellsworth legal secretary, Barbara Sackman medical secretary, and Melissa Baldwin physical therapist assistant. Mary Reed leads the program with advisers Paula Niemczynski, Susan Walsh, Hannah Larmon, and Jeff Cahan guiding three days per week in chosen fields.
Schuylerville native Kim Spiezio son of Mr and Mrs James L Spiezio has been nominated to Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges A certificate of recognition will be presented by Adirondack Community College later this year Kim is a graduate of Schuylerville Central High School
