Hawaii Statehood Likely This Week Says Quinn
Hawaii's move to statehood is reportedly near approval with President Eisenhower ready to sign the bill early this week. Gov Quinn, Republican candidate, spoke of a timetable to fit both parties and said a primary election would precede a general vote on statehood. He noted Hawaii’s bid to be a Pacific hub and pledged to coordinate with Hawaii leaders before issuing a proclamation.
