Modern Lighting Plan Aims To Underground Park Ave Lights
City Engineer John H. Sheehan outlined a plan to install modern mercury vapor street lighting in Mechanicville’s Park Avenue urban renewal area. The project would underground power for Park Avenue and Railroad Streets serving the Park Plaza Shopping Center, removing most overhead wiring and pole transformers at no city cost, funded by New York State Electric and Gas Corp beginning with expected annual city cost around 5000 dollars. The plan, contingent on approvals, would preserve some existing wiring on Mabbett Street and Hill Street for residential blocks.
