Italian American post honors fallen member at state convention
Members of Matera Melle Rea Post and its auxiliary attend the New York state convention in Troy as 200 posts gather at The Hendrick Hudson for open house June 24 and banquet June 25 at a Troy hotel. Corporal Rea, killed in action in June, was a La Salle Institute graduate who enlisted in 1942. his siblings and father serve in local organizations.

Two Army Flyers Die In Philippine Crash
A transport plane carrying two army officers crashed into a Philippine mountainside 30 miles northeast of Baguio and exploded. It is believed the two pilots were killed or seriously injured. The aircraft had been dispatched from Clark Field to search for a missing B23 aircraft reported March 1.

Funeral Held For Former Navy Officer
The funeral of Westey Leo Barney, a former Navy officer, was held at Leahy's Funeral Home and St Joseph's Church. The service was led by Rev James A Nolan with deacons Rev Leo Brady and Rev John G O Grady. A firing squad from LET 10 Albany attended, bearingers included Patrick McArdis and Joseph Calabia. The Naval escort presented the flag to the family in behalf of the US Government.

G A Round chief automotive engineer for the Socony Vacuum Oil Co will address the Hawkhudson Chapter Society of Automotive Engineers at 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Wellington Hotel Albany. Round recently returned from Europe where he toured foreign facilities and will speak on Retent Automotive Observations Abroad. The meeting will be preceded by a dinner at 7 p.m.
