Allies Hear Rundstedt Sought Peace

Washington observers believe Field Marshal Rundstedt sought an armistice with Eisenhower and that his bid was rebuffed. Von Rundstedt reportedly left the western front with Walther Model in charge as German defenses at Remagen possibly faced Hitler’s reaction. Most experts deem Germany’s military outlook hopeless and doubt Hitler sanctioned any surrender.
