Albany Salary Boost Bill Seen Political Trick
Albany proposals permit Albany County and the City of Albany to issue bonds to fund salary increases for all officers and employees. If passed, raises above 10 percent could be allowed with five year bond repayment. City bond limit set at 300000 dollars. The move sparks speculation amid investigations of Albany County and a historic clash over refunding bonds. Government positions and school teachers previously faced denied raises due to budget constraints. Some see the bill as a test of Governor Dewey’s stance on public employee pay.
