County officials outline the shift to a Uniform Jury System effective July 1 1954 lowering property ownership requirements. Names now come from voters lists with 5000+ jurors to be available, drawn monthly to fill jury pools, with mailed forms and allowances, while eligibility remains strict and excusal rules apply.
The Federation of Tax Administrators reports Nebraska New Hampshire and Texas escape retail and broad income taxes while 30 states tax individual income and 33 levy sales taxes though only 18 have both. All states tax gasoline and motor vehicles with tobacco taxes common. 47 states tax liquor while Oklahoma and Mississippi remain dry. A seedless pomegranate was developed in Turkey. The commissioner’s office now reviews registration books from at least one ward in Troy and one town in Shecounty yearly to locate new jurors.
