Shenendehowa honors three Clifton Park residents

Clifton Park residents Robert Goodman Helene Greengold and Evelyn Gurney received honorary life memberships from the Shenendehowa PTSA in recognition of their service to children and youth. Goodman contributed on the school board and community programs, Gurney helped with the Community Festival and charity drives, and Greenwood coordinated Welcome Wagon and hospital volunteer work. Each membership funds $25 to Twin Projects Funds for Teacher Education supporting Jenkins Memorial Scholarship and state PTA Fellowship programs.

Clifton Park Board approves 86000 loan for Rexford water overrun

In a special meeting the Clifton Park Town Board authorized borrowing 86000 to cover Rexford Water District construction overruns. A council member questions funding for about 20000 in operating costs and how to pay for 18 Blue Barns Road hook ups. Officials say 46000 in remaining construction bills will be paid soon.

Shenendehowa OKs MOU with Civil Service Employees union

Shenendehowa School Board ratified a memorandum of understanding with the Shenendehowa Civil Service Employees union after a special meeting. Board member Dean Arden criticized President Robert Goodman for participation in talks while observers were allowed. The board approved a settlement exceeding the earlier 14 percent three year cap, with a 15.8 percent increase proposed but offset by provisions to improve bus-operations efficiency.

Mechanicville Reports Major Tool Theft From Garage

Mechanicville police said tools valued at more than 1500 dollars were stolen from a Saratoga Avenue resident’s garage between Saturday and this morning. Entry was gained by breaking a plywood panel in a garage door. Officer Frank Ponzillo noted no arrests and possible links to three prior thefts in three weeks.

The Saratoga County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing at 1 45 p m in Ballston Spa on proposed tax breaks for businesses that invest in themselves If no action is taken a state law will limit local taxation to 50 percent of a 10000 or larger improvement by May 1 with a further 5 percent tax increase each year until 100 percent is taxed Some supervisors fear revenue loss while others see incentives to expand business The hearing is in the board chambers and the public is invited.

Insurance price roll back sought in New York

Assemblyman Bobby D Andrea of Saratoga County said he would introduce legislation to void auto insurance rate increases from February 1 to February 17 and require refunds for customers. He notes rates rose up to 29 percent after the insurance department's powers expired before renewal.

Linda Endres Named Outstanding Young Teenager

Linda Endres of Clifton Park received the Outstanding Young Teenager award for Saratoga County, chosen by the Clifton Park Half Moon Jaycees for scholarship leadership and community service. She is a Shenendehowa High School senior, National Honor Society member, and a former American Field Service representative to Barbados. She plans to study nursing at Niagara University or Hartwick College.
