Experts Doubt Transfer of Ships to Russia
Washington experts doubt any portion of the surrendered Italian fleet will be transferred to the Russian Navy. President Roosevelt said plans were being made to allocate about one third of the fleet or equivalent ships. Naval authorities doubt the Red Navy can use such ships in current theaters due to German and Turkish control, though certain types like minesweepers and minelayers might be useful near sub Arctic ports.
