Grand Jury Work Starts Tuesday
The new Rensselaer County grand jury will hold its first meeting Tuesday to begin investigation of criminal cases. Asst. Dist. Atty William J. Doyle and William H. Finn of Behr-Manning and Paul C. Rasmussen of GE are among the jurors appointed as foreman and assistant foreman. The panel replaces the January grand jury discharged last Tuesday.

Firemen Set Camp Ablaze for Drill at Burden Lake
Averill Park Sand Lake Volunteer Fire Company led by Chief Ernest Hoffman burned a summer camp at Burden Lake on request of the owner. Firemen pumped water by drilling holes into Burden Lake to control the blaze and will discuss the drill at the March 7 meeting. Nomination committees announced two slates with chairmen Richard Seuffert and Leland Hill and members Stanley Lupkis Harold Schreiner Kenneth Hungerford Robert Barbour. A field day is planned at Crystal Lake Park on Saturday August 19 with George Kerns as general chairman. Scouts Hold Parents Night at Middle School Troop 26 heard from John Sheehan about Stratton Mountain Camp and Rotary Camp work. Scoutmaster Jack Hallett and Committee man James Dodongers led the meeting. Raymond Primeau, Eagle Scout, received recognition for the Accredited Home Study awards.

New York AP reports the National Insurance Association cites a 32.7 percent rise in January fire losses from December 1966, totaling $120.4 million. The year’s national loss estimate reaches $159.7 million for January, with larger totals attributed to windstorms and the McCormick Place fire in Chicago.
