State loans to veterans proposed in postwar plan
An influential Republican majority bloc in the Legislature proposed a constitutional amendment to authorize a $50 million state debt for veteran cash loans to buy homes or farms. The plan allows up to $5 900 loans for up to twenty years, with rates set by the Legislature. Approval by both houses and a statewide vote in November 1945 would be required. Meanwhile, bills totaling $87,485,000 were advanced as the session nears March 15.
