Mechanicville School Board votes 3 461 534 for the 1977 78 budget up 121 000 from last year with details to be released Friday by Business Manager Anthony Cocozzo. The plan includes a possible five percent raise for Civil Service staff and a three percent raise plus increments for teachers.
Dr. Paul Loatman defends use of complex phrasing amid a state education panel clash. Mechanicville School Board annuls superintendent Donald Kearns contract, now facing 19 charges of malfeasance and insubordination. Kearns’ contract runs through June 30, 1980. Schuylerville Central School District will again present a 3.6 percent higher budget of 3,192,160 to residents on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The proposed tax levy stands at 829,795 while the district seeks public authorization.

The Fox Hollow Cultural Center in Petersburg hosts a two weekend Midsummer Faire at Route 2 on July 16 17 and 23 24 featuring The Kings and Couriers Theatre Company Dartington Morris Men and many performers. Three Mechanicville High School students were chosen as district representatives for Boys State this week at Morrisville State College. David Gandron and William Sullivan, both 16, are juniors with strong academic records and active participation in multiple clubs and sports. Patrick Southworth, 18, joins them with an 85 average and similar school leadership.
Colonie police report a burglary at Saddlewood School on Loralee Drive Tuesday night. The thief kicked in a garage receiving door and took three fire extinguishers. Furniture was moved around the building.
Two Stillwater High School juniors William Kiley and Keith Zurlo attend Boys State at Morrisville State College. Both sponsored by the American Legion Post of Stillwater and noted for strong academics and involvement in varsity sports.
Albany troopers end practice of letting speeding offenders plead guilty at arrest. Major Frederick Penfold says the policy is now halted in Troop G, while Major Nicholas Giangulano supports negotiating interstate agreements to record and pursue traffic convictions.
