RENSSELAER Ed Nick Nicholas was feted at a testimonial dinner at St John’s after a 33 year tenure as St John’s academy head coach. He led four sports with a 341 208 basketball record 72 26 football, track titles in 1971 1972 and never a losing baseball season. General Motors donated a 1976 Vega to Castleton-on-Hudson High School for driver education and shop classes.

Flooding closes Route 7 near Vermont border

Severe flooding shuts New York State Route 7 near the Vermont line with a culvert bridge washout by Smith's Gulf in Hoosick leaving an eight foot hole. Route 7 is closed from Smith gas station to the state line and may be 2 to 3 days before restoration. Traffic rerouted via Breeze Hollow Road or Hoosick Falls. Bennington Vermont reports closures on River Chapel Orebed roads and Route 67 hardest hit in North Bennington.

Federal grant service aids capital district towns in eligibility

Albany and neighboring counties can use the Federal Assistance Program Retrieval System to find federal grant and loan programs they qualify for. The Capital District Regional Planning Commission uses a GE Computing Center connected terminal to access the Federal Catalog of Domestic Assistance with 37 program areas. Lodge Donates suction unit to Rensselaer Ambulance

The Leonardo DaVinci Lodge donated a Laerdal suction unit, valued around $300, to the Rensselaer Volunteer Ambulance Service. It will be used in ambulances and on site to clear blocked airways. Organizers aim to acquire a second unit for the other ambulance.

Two Men Arrested on Fireworks Charges in Rensselaer

John E. Gonzales of Albany and William C. Lyon of Pittsfield were fined 500 each after being arrested by Rensselaer detectives for unlawfully dealing with fireworks at 1145 Broadway. They were arraigned before City Court Judge Thomas Delaney.

Severe storm rips through Hoosick Falls causing four fires

A severe thunder and hail storm struck Hoosick Falls Tuesday night, igniting four fires, snapping power lines, and splitting trees. Two Teens Drowned in Lake Luzerne Rescue Finds Bodies

Two Long Island youths died when rubber rafts capsized on Lake Luzerne. Vincent Striano, 17, was found ashore near a camp in Lake Luzerne and Kenneth Reid, 19, was recovered in the Hudson River north of Corinth. Both were pronounced dead by the Warren County coroner.

Kingston to Albany Barge Museum Hosts Bicentennial Tour
