Engel accuses army of donating and selling food to UN
Representative Engel charged that the Army sold 327 gallons of military food to the UN and that 198 million dollars worth was diverted to aid UN operations. He argued the army’s actions increased wartime costs for the United States while criticizing allies and the occupation, as Congress debated a seven billion dollar War Department appropriation for the 1947 fiscal year.
