Allied Push Bites Deep Into Italy Near Perugia and Florence
Allied forces press the Italian campaign from Perugia toward Florence with heavy German losses. Fifth Army reports capture of Monte Calcari and advances along the Tyrrhenian coast while French and American units push through Radicofani gaps. British Eighth Army drives along the Adriatic front toward the Metauro valley as German forces withdraw to the Gothic Line. Casualties and matériel losses mount as enemy defenses crumble and prisoners stream from the 19th Luftwaffe Division. In domestic news, Justice Francis Sergan grants an interlocutory divorce for Susie Herrick of East Nassau from Dantel A. Herrick, with custody awarded to Mrs Herrick.
