Dewey presses states to tackle food shortage now
Governor Thomas E. Dewey urged the nation’s governors to implement working food programs as the administration’s policies fail. He warned of a looming meat shortage and criticized price controls, calling for urgent state action and cooperative efforts with federal food agencies to increase grain transport to cities. He stressed that the war governors, close to the people, must act hơn than national government to avert hunger.

Knights Armor for Bomber Crews From Eighth Air Force
The Eighth Air Force will outfit all American heavy bomber crews with manganese steel armor similar to medieval knights gear. A London firm producing the 16 pound sleeveless vest plus chest back protection and an apron will manufacture as production allows. Pilots wear half vests while bombardiers navigators gunners and radio operators wear full vests. Field tests included a Wilhelmshaven Emden raid where a shell exploded near Lieut Jack Fisher yet caused no penetration. Sergt Hubert Corl credited the vest with preventing serious injury on the Hamm raid.
