Jamson 146 plans traffic fix amid crowded Route 146

Jamson 146 planners study traffic flow improvements for Route 146 near Northway Exit 9. The plan calls for town land sale of old Route 146 right of way, funding $6,000 in engineering, an 80 foot right of way, altered McDonald’s access, a new parallel road, added left turn limits, and a four way light after Clifton Country Road extension. The board took no action yet and will study proposals.

County to reevaluate Saratoga homes to market value by 1979

Saratoga County aims to assess all homes at true market value by May 30 1979 with a two year, 60 000 parcel revaluation plan costing under 900 000. Five firms express interest and maps for 60 000 parcels are updated. The project will use 50 public works and 20 other staff funded by CETA and will feed data to Albany computer banks for quick access by town assessors. Residents fear tax increases for long-unassessed properties.

Pruyn seeks jury trial in Mechanicville sniping case

Kenyon Billy Pruyns attorney Edward J McMahon moved to withdraw a prior non jury trial demand arguing the prosecution aims for death. Judge Loren N Brown ruled the death penalty unconstitutional and Wait appeals. McMahon says a speedy trial is needed to avoid long jail without fate.

Clifton Park Student Heads to Paraguay for Summer Exchange

Ann Gullie of Clifton Gardens will arrive in Paraguay to spend the summer as Shenendehowa High School’s foreign exchange student. Chosen from 20 candidates, she will live with veterinarian Hugo Galli in Asuncion and plans to study veterinary medicine in college. Ann has completed three years of Spanish and been active in Shenendehowa athletics.

Saratoga County Fair promises lively indoor out event week

Spa County Fair schedule released by fair chairman Robert Rexford lists pie eating contest daredevil shows fireworks demolition derby tractor pulls and a tug of war between county supervisors and village and city mayors. Mechanicville School Chief to undergo Albany surgery

Mechanicville superintendent Donald Kearns plans surgery at Albany Medical Center Monday and will disclose his illness by June 28, if possible. Board member Dr Paul Lostman urged medical information amid claims of excessive absences and public concern. The board voted five to one to seek details, with Virginia Moore dissenting, calling it harassment.

Mechanicville Seeks Equity Over Federal Grants

Mechanicville officials complain Albany and Cohoes received federal public works grants this year while Saratoga County is deemed ineligible. Superintendent Donald Kearns and board member Paul Loatman criticize the process as inequitable and plan to protest to the Economic Development Administration. The district sought more than 500000 to enlarge the high or middle school to address long standing overcrowding since the closing of School 1.

The Mechanicville City Republican Committee endorsed Finance Commissioner Anthony Luciano and Public Works Commissioner Michael Ennello for four year terms. Chairman Donald W. Carola announced the endorsements Monday night.

Sheriff unit to vote on county contract offer

Saratoga County sheriff department Civil Service Employees Association unit of 70 members will vote Friday on a county contract offer. Negotiator Fred Hequembourg said the county proposed a somewhat different deal than before and the factfinder’s recommendation of raises. The union seeks $60 raises, while Leonard urged larger raises for both general and corrections officer levels. Negotiations with the 380-member general employee union continue Friday.

Stillwater budget and incumbents win by large margins

The 1977-78 Stillwater school budget of 2.432 million, up from 2.254 million, passed 233 to 125. Incumbents Malcolm Borst and David L. Ferris won decisively with 381-46 and 337-57 votes. Osborne ran unopposed for a third term with 283 votes. Superintendent Curtis Bristol cited higher turnout and inflationary costs as reasons for the increase.
