Watervliet plant eyed for expansion and modernization
Allegheny Ludlum officials told the Watervliet Colonie and Lathan Civil Committee that expansion and modernization of the Watervliet steel works are exceptionally good. The plant employs about 1,300 workers, with wartime peak near 1,706, and study plans include a $2 million continuous casting mill to save time and money. The move could raise production capacity and place Allegheny products on a more competitive footing, with titanium center feasibility also discussed due to nearby labor and titanium sources.
