Meets Mother Who Saved Her Life from Nazis in Poland
Felicia Gruenfelder an 11 year old Jewish girl recounts a brief meeting with her Christian mother who shielded her during the Warsaw ghetto era. They were later reunited with Catholic high school teachers Mr and Mrs Arens who aided Jews and were imprisoned by Nazis. The Arens family had come to the U S in 1947 and Felicia and her mother arrived Tuesday to stay with Mrs Gruenfelder's sister in Venice California.

Averill Park Plans for New Elementary School
Averill Park voters will weigh a proposed 450000 elementary school campus on recently acquired land adjoining the Preventaire site. Meall E Zweig president of the board says the plan includes kindergarten, 13 classrooms, library, cafeteria, gym and separate play areas with a two story steel frame building. State aid 64 percent, district tax about five mills, bonds over 18 years with annual principal of 3000 plus interest. A June 28 meeting at the Averill Park School Auditorium will decide on construction and bond issuance.

Lawyer Contests New Indictment Against Morrell
Supreme Court Justice William HM Murray reserved decision on a demurrer to a new indictment against Russell Morrell of this city. The three counts arise from the February 11 1948 death of Vitus Popp after Morrell allegedly struck him with a car on Brunswick Road. Morrell’s attorney Arthur L Rosen argued the indictment fails to state facts and charges Morrell with a degree of manslaughter. Morrell had previously been indicted for misdemeanor reckless conduct, pleaded not guilty, and was free on bail.
