Unlicensed Dog Licenses Prompt City Notices
City Marshal Albert B. Matthews begins serving 517 summonses on owners without 1942 licenses while a rise in licenses issued at the City Clerk’s office accompanies the effort. War plant employment keeps couples from City Hall, and funds from licenses go to Mohawk Hudson River Humane Society to cover stray and injured dog care. City notes dog nuisance complaints should go to the Humane Society as it has no such facilities. The year’s summons total is the lowest in years despite a larger dog census.

Care of Children First Duty of Wartime Mother
A wartime column argues mothers have primary duty to care for children, criticizing working mothers who leave kids home alone. It urges that mothers should stay home unless child care is assured, noting Seattle schools teach cooking but call it a poor substitute for adequate child welfare.
