Clifton Park backs reading plan for summer remedial work

Clifton Park town board approved a $2 800 funding for a summer remedial reading program at Shenendehowa School, over objections about budget details and proper placement in the town budget. The program, in its second year, is sponsored by the Community Services Council and will serve nearly 100 elementary students.

Schuylerville Board Approves 3.19 Million Budget Plan

Schuylerville voters will consider a 3.192 million dollar spending plan with a 53 650 dollar tax increase. Board President John Rieger says the budget rises 3.6 percent while taxes may rise about 6 percent depending on town. Six teacher aides and one custodial position are cut and maintenance work is delayed. The district meeting is at 7 30 p m in the junior high auditorium. Voters also choose a replacement for Donald Larmon, retired Dec 31 1976. Petitions filed by Mary Lou Peck and Paul Bodnar.

44 foreign students to visit Clifton Park for short hosting stint

Shenendehowa Chapter of American Field Service will host 44 foreign students from Denmark Finland and South Africa from July 6 to 8. The group visiting before charter flights home will tour the Northeast and the program seeks local families to entertain guests with hospitality and transportation.

Mechanicville student wins Mary McCarthy Scholarship

Maria A. Maciariello, daughter of Arthur and Mrs. Maciariello of 90 South Main Street, wins the Mechanicville Teachers Association Mary McCarthy Scholarship for 1977. The prize honors scholastic achievement and will be presented at the high school graduation on June 26. She plans post secondary study at Russell Sage College majoring in business administration.

Dantes to Attend Flag Day Ceremonies in Mechanicville

Senior Dante Club members will join Flag Day events at the Sons of Italy club rooms. Bocci Ball League play begins Thursday with captains Josephine Russon Carmella Taglione Celia Pascucci and Rose Iacobelli. Rain date Friday. games at Sons of Italy bocci ball courts. A Plum Brook Fish and Game Club picnic was held with Mary Hmura Isabelle Marotta Elvira Begnoli Lydia Rinaldi Emily D Alberto Angelina Sparano Carmella Taglione and Antoinette Santabarbara assisting meals. Venerable Mary Louise Fasolino led a follow up business meeting. The club plans a procession and Mass at Talmadge Park on Aug 14.
