Castleton Auxiliary Installs Officers in Community Dinner
A new slate of Castleton American Legion post auxiliary officers was installed at a Village Inn dinner honoring president Mrs Carrie Bleadowe. Les Van de Wal, a Castleton boy hospitalized at Bronx Veterans Hospital, inspired residents to seek a television for his room despite a Veterans Administration ban. Local leaders, including Rev Dean Taylor and Sen Irving Ives, were alerted and the community organized fundraisers and a “Lester Van de Wal Day.”
