School District Budget Cuts Tax to $2.47 per Thousand

The Rensseracy School District Board approves a $2.47 per thousand tax decrease amid a $1,043,374 budget, up $92,886 from 1963-64, aided by anticipated state aid of $522,420. Pay hikes for 92 salaried employees drive costs, with hearings set for June 29 at City Hall.

Fined $10 In Case Involving License

Everett W. Sargent Jr. 23 of Rensselaer was arrested on a charge of failing to change address on a motor vehicle license and assault third degree. He pleaded guilty to the license violation before Judge LaVerne G. Lewis and was fined $10. On the assault charge he pleaded not guilty, released on $100 cash bail, and sought adjournment to obtain counsel. Viet Nam remark follows.

VanAcker Joins Fort Crailo Memorial Commission

Gov Rockefeller's office announced the appointment of Dr. Benjamin Van Acker of 401 Blooming Grove Drive to the Fort Crailo Memorial Commission for a term ending April 1, 1970. The unsalaried post succeeds Dr. Thomas W. Phelan whose term expired. Van Acker, 38, and a native of Albany, is a Union College and University of Pennsylvania Dental School graduate practicing in Rensselaer where he is president of the Rensselaer Boys' Club.

Mr. Kirkham Succumbs in Rensselaer After Long Life of Service

George F. Kirkham 63 of 2B Ash St Rensselaer a retired fireman and New York Central Railroad engineer and World War I veteran died Wednesday at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a long illness He was born in Rensselaer and lived there his whole life employed 40 years by the railroad on its Hudson Division retired a year and a half ago He belonged to First Baptist Church Greenbush Lodge F&AM Rensselaer and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Survivors include his wife Ruth Lchriber a son George F Kirkham a daughter Mrs dathiny Pearson and four grandchildren Funeral will be held tomorrow at 2 pm from William J Lyons Funeral Home Interment Beverwyck Cemetery.

Professor Receives Residency for Industrial Practice

Dr. Philip A. Thompson of RPI will join eight engineering professors in a Ford Foundation program to spend 12 to 15 months in industry. He will be paid by General Electric in Schenectady as a personal assistant to a senior engineer. The foundation also grants 830,000 in forgivable loans to RPI graduates pursuing teaching careers.

Families Return From Milestone Graduation and Events

Mr and Mrs Karl Fischbach returned from Milwaukee Wisconsin where their son Peter graduated with a bachelor of science degree at Marquette University on June 7. The Fischbachs also visited Mrs Fischbachs mother in Waukegan St Me and Mrs Roy Disbro and Mr and Mrs William Burdick spent the weekend in Elmira. The men attended the State Bowling Tournament. St Johns Church bazaar is planned on the church lawn tomorrow and Sunday afternoon. A strawberry festival will be held on the rectory lawn on Sunday. A rummage sale and food sale will take place at the Presbyterian United Church on June 27 chaired by Mrs Gordon Foster.

Kamodo dragon of Indonesia feeds on wide diet

The Kamodo dragon in Indonesia is described as a 10 foot long lizard weighing up to 300 pounds. It reportedly consumes deer water falo and small mammals and also eats birds and fruit in its omnivorous routine observed by its owners.

Altar Rosary Society Plans Food Sales and Events

The Altar Rosary Society of St. Mary's Church Crescent met at Mohawk Post American Legion Hall. Plans include food sales after July 19 Masses and August 23 Masses, with chairs Mrs. Stritch and Mrs. Harold Perry leading. A special July meeting to finalize the Fall Fashion Show and Card Party was announced. The bazaar at Halfmoon Firemen's Recreation Field, June 19–21, sponsored by Holy Name Society, includes a Country Auction led by Mrs. Beyer and co‑chairs Manderville and Giachetti, plus a fancy article booth overseen by Mrs. Richard Guyer.

Alumni Gather for 3 Day Reunion at RPI in Troy

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute hosts a three day alumni reunion alongside its 158th commencement.
